LIFE IN THE SECRET PLACE: Recreated in His Image Pastor Tony Scott

theChurch TALK IF OVER NOTES | September 21-22, 2019

DAY ONE: Read Genesis 1:26-27 (AMPC) “God said, Let Us [Father, Son, and Holy Spirit] make mankind in Our image, after Our likeness, and let them have complete authority of the fish of the sea, the birs of the air, the [tame] beasts, and overall the Earth, and over everything that creeps upon the Earth. ‘So God created man in His own image, in the image and likeness of God.  He created him; male and female.  He created them.

Read II Corinthians 3:18 (AMPC) And all of us, with unveiled face, [because we] continued to hold [in the Word of God] as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are constantly being transfigured into His very own image in ever increasing splendor from one degree of glory to another; [for this comes] from the Lord [Who is] the Spirit.
Nothing is more important to mankind than knowing the answer to these two questions-
  • Who is man?
  • Why is man?

We should also note the most important thing about man is that he is inescapably related to God.
His highest potential and most fulfilling function are realized as he abides in the secret place of the Most High God.

In metaphysics, the word ontology is used to define ultimate being.

Man realized his ultimate being as he sits in God’s presence and is transformed into the image and likeness for which God created him.

Man is dependent on God for His continued existence.

DAY TWO: Nehemiah 9:6 (MSG)- “Blessed be Your glorious name, exalted above all blessing and praise! You’re the once, GOD, You alone; You made the heavens, the heaves of heavens, and all angels; the Earth and everything on it, the seas and everything in them; You keep them all alive; Heaven’s angels worship you!”

Acts 17:29 (TPT) “It is through Him that we live and function and have our identity; just as your own poets have said ‘Our lineage comes from Him’”

He created us for Himself.  We function best when we are fully alive in Him- totally surrendered to His will and His ways.

Philippians 2:12-13 (MSG)- What I’m getting at friends ,is that you should simply keep doing what you’ve done from the beginning. When I was living among you, you lived in responsive obedience.  Now that I’m separated from you, keep I up.  Better yet, redouble your efforts.  Be energetic in your life of salvation, reverent and sensitive before God. That energy is Go’s energy an energy deep within you, God Himself willing and working at what will give Him the most pleasure.”

God will help you accomplish the good things you desire to do.

DAY THREE: It is in His Secret Place that restores His image and likeness in us, to us and through us.

Genesis 1:26 (AMPC)- “God said, ‘Let Us [Father, Son, and Holy Spirit] make mankind in Our image, after Our likeness…’”

“Image” means “to carve or “to cut.”
“Likeness” means to be like.

These two words together tell us that man is a representation of God who is like God in certain respects.

Man, as he came from the hands of His Creator, was whole, complete, had integrity innocence, was holy.

In His creation, man is God’s highest creation - an image-bearer of God.

He was made a little lower than God and placed in dominion over all creation.  When he fell into sin, the image of God was tarnished.  Yet, fallen man still bears God’s image, which is being restored through his faith in Jesus’ atoning work on the Cross.

Hebrews 1:3 (TPT)- “The Son is the dazzling radiance of  God’s splendor, the exact expression of God’s true nature—His mirror image!”

Colossians 1:15 (TPT)- He (Christ) is the divine portrait, the true likeness of the invisible God, and the first-born heir of all creation.

DAY FOUR: II Corinthians 4:4 (TPT)- For their mins have been blinded by the god of this age, leaving them in unbelief.  Their blindness keeps them from seeing the dayspring light of the wonderful news of the glory of Jesus Christ, who I the divine image of God.

What we see and hear in Christ is what God intended for man.

Romans 8:20 (MSG) – “God knew what He was doing from the very beginning.  He decided from the outset to shape the lives of those who love Him along the same lines as the life of His Son.

The Son stands first in the line of humanity He restored.  We see the original and intended shape of our lives there in Him.

Just as Christ came to Earth to “mirror” the Father to us, in Him we “mirror” Christ to our world.

II Corinthians 3:18 (TPT) – “We can all draw close to Him with the veil removed from our faced. And with no veil we all become like mirrors who brightly reflect the glory of the Lord Jesus.  We are being transfigured into His very image as we move from one brighter level of glory to another…”

You are I are to enter into His secret place, sit in His presence (glory) and reflect, like a mirror, who He is in and through us, to the world around us.

There is a great law of life which says – We grow like who and what we live with.

In His secret place, His image and likeness are restored to us. We come like Him and rule in our lives by His presence within us.
